Astonishing X-Men

Dream-team creators Joss Whedon (creator of TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly and fan-favorite film Serenity) and John Cassaday (Planetary, Captain America) bring you the explosive #1 issue of the all-new flagship X-Men series! As part of X-men: Reload, this issue marks a return to classic greatness and the beginning of a brand-new era for the X-Men.

Captain America

It’s a new beginning as four time Eisner-nominated Best Writer Ed Brubaker makes his Marvel debut, joined by white-hot artist Steve Epting! In just this first issue, the Red Skull lays the groundwork for his most devastating attack ever on Captain America and the land he holds dear…and with the Cosmic Cube in his possession, how can Cap hope to stop him?

Marvel Zombies

Torn from the pages of Ultimate Fantastic Four! On an Earth shockingly similar to the Marvel Universe’s, an alien virus has mutated all of the world’s greatest super heroes into flesh-eating monsters! It took them only hours to destroy life as we know it… but what happens when they run out of humans to eat?!? Follow their search for more food… and witness the arrival of the Silver Surfer!

X-23

Now it can be told. The full story behind the origin of X-23; who she is, where she came from, and the exact nature of her relationship to Wolverine. You think you know, but you have no idea. Pick up the mini-series today!

X-Men: Age of Apocalypse

Apocalypse has been destroyed; the end of the world has been averted. Or has it? Sinister has just unleashed a massive force unseen, unrivaled, and unbeatable. Magneto and the X-Men’s only hope lies in tracking down a retired Weapon X!

Project: Rooftop Announces Wolverine Redesign Contest

Not so long ago I blogged about Project: Rooftops Batman 2.0 contest and posted about the grand prize winner. These contests are fun to see what people come up with when they get a chance to redesign a classic character. This time around the character to redesign is Marvel fan favorite, Wolverine. With the soon to be released movie just days away, this is sure to be a heated contest featuring many talented creators.

I personally always liked Wolverine in blue jeans, a t-shirt and cowboy boots. Those blue and yellow, or brown and tan tights always seemed a little too cheesy for such a tough character. Makes you wonder how Rachelle from Living Between Wednesday would rate him on her “hunkiness” scale?

Discount Comic Book Service (DCBS) has provided the following (astonishing) prizes to the top three winners:

Grand Prize - Wolverine Omnibus, Wolverine: Weapon X #1 Coipel Variant signed by Jason Aaron and Ron Garney, and Wolverine: Enemy of the State HC Vol 1 and 2

First Place - Wolverine: Weapon X #1 Coipel Variant signed by Jason Aaron and Ron Garney, and Wolverine: Enemy of the State HC Vol 1 and 2

Second Place - Wolverine: Weapon X #1 Coipel Variant signed by Jason Aaron and Ron Garney

Plus along with the usual P:R Staff roundtable reviewers, Wolverine: Weapon X’s creative team of writer Jason Aaron and artist Ron Garney will be joining in to guest judge the finalists!

So send in your Wolverine redesigns to projectrooftop@gmail.com, with the subject line: “Wolverine: Look Sharp.” Please include your full name, age, website, and mailing address. International winners may be responsible for shipment. Please note that all of the usual P:R Guidelines apply.

All entries must be received by May 15th, 2009!

Morrison and Quietly on Batman and Robin

After that nasty run by Jim Lee and Frank Miller on Batman and Robin, and the awesome run on All-star Superman by Frank Quietly and Grant Morrison, all I can say is that can’t wait to get my hands on Quietly and Morrison’s Batman and Robin.

Batman 2.0 Costume Design Contest Winners

Recently, I reported on a contest at Project Rooftop, Batman 2.0: The Dynamic Do-over, that had artists submitting their designs of a costume redesign of the Caped Crusader, Batman. The contest has ended and the winners have been posted.

I have to admit that a lot of the designs are awesome. The contestants all show a lot of potential as character designers and this is one of the best results from all of the contests to date. Head on over to the contest results to see for your self!

Grand Prize Winner: Anjin Anhut
