THE ROMITA LEGACY

John Romita and John Romita, Jr. are two of the most influential artists in the history of comic books, as well as being father and son. In the late 1960’s, John Romita was brought on by Stan Lee to replace original Amazing Spider-Man artist, Steve Ditko, who had left the series. With Lee at the writing helm, Romita continued working on The Amazing Spider-Man, beginning a collaboration that would come to define the look and essence of Spider-Man. A decade later, John Romita Jr. would start his climb towards the top of the business. For most sons, following in the footsteps of a famous father would be quite a challenge, but Romita Jr. thrived and became an equally powerful force as a comic book artist!

Project: Rooftop Announces Wolverine Redesign Contest

Not so long ago I blogged about Project: Rooftops Batman 2.0 contest and posted about the grand prize winner. These contests are fun to see what people come up with when they get a chance to redesign a classic character. This time around the character to redesign is Marvel fan favorite, Wolverine. With the soon to be released movie just days away, this is sure to be a heated contest featuring many talented creators.

I personally always liked Wolverine in blue jeans, a t-shirt and cowboy boots. Those blue and yellow, or brown and tan tights always seemed a little too cheesy for such a tough character. Makes you wonder how Rachelle from Living Between Wednesday would rate him on her “hunkiness” scale?

Discount Comic Book Service (DCBS) has provided the following (astonishing) prizes to the top three winners:

Grand Prize - Wolverine Omnibus, Wolverine: Weapon X #1 Coipel Variant signed by Jason Aaron and Ron Garney, and Wolverine: Enemy of the State HC Vol 1 and 2

First Place - Wolverine: Weapon X #1 Coipel Variant signed by Jason Aaron and Ron Garney, and Wolverine: Enemy of the State HC Vol 1 and 2

Second Place - Wolverine: Weapon X #1 Coipel Variant signed by Jason Aaron and Ron Garney

Plus along with the usual P:R Staff roundtable reviewers, Wolverine: Weapon X’s creative team of writer Jason Aaron and artist Ron Garney will be joining in to guest judge the finalists!

So send in your Wolverine redesigns to projectrooftop@gmail.com, with the subject line: “Wolverine: Look Sharp.” Please include your full name, age, website, and mailing address. International winners may be responsible for shipment. Please note that all of the usual P:R Guidelines apply.

All entries must be received by May 15th, 2009!
