Brubaker and Epting to appear at Heroes Con

CREATIVE TEAM THAT KILLED CAPTAIN AMERICA JOINING FORCES AGAIN AT HEROESCON 2009!

Next weekend marks the return of one of the Charlotte area’s most venerable traditions, as the annual Heroes Convention comes to the Charlotte Convention Center. Among the 300+ -person guest list are the names of Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting. You may remember them as the writer/artist team that killed Marvel’s Captain America character two years ago, an event that drew mainstream press coverage from every major network and drove large numbers of collectors to comic stores to pick up the suddenly-scarce issue.

Rumors abound that the icon will be returning in the pages of this Monday’s Captain America #600, which would make Brubaker and Epting’s appearance at HeroesCon even more of an event. Marvel Comics has kept the story’s details a closely-guarded secret, but for the first time ever they’re shipping the book two days early, as opposed to the regular Wednesday-release date usual for comics.

“When Cap died in Captain America #25 a couple years ago, it seemed like everyone in the world wanted a copy of that book,” says Shelton Drum, owner of Charlotte’s Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find comics shop and Heroes Convention. “I expect Ed and Steve’s lines at HeroesCon will be packed with people carrying copies of Cap #600, and we’re already making our crowd control plans now.”

Brubaker and Epting join a who’s who of comics writers, artists, and publishers, including Brian Michael Bendis, Chris Claremont, and Bone creator Jeff Smith, all of whom will be appearing next weekend (June 19-21) for the 3-day Heroes Convention 2009. Advance 3-day passes ($30) will be on sale until Tuesday June 16th at midnight, and single day passes ($15) will be available at the event itself.

With its comics-first focus, HeroesCon has quietly become one of the most popular comic book conventions in the nation, annually drawing over 10,000 fans to uptown Charlotte. With a guest list including the industry’s best artists, writers, and publishers, this year’s HeroesCon, going on Father’s Day Weekend (June 19-21), seems poised to exceed all the organizers’ expectations.

Heroes Convention 2009 is an annual comics convention founded in 1982 by Shelton Drum, who also owns and operates the Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find comics shop in Charlotte, NC. For more information refer to www.heroesonline.com.
