Review: Warren Ellis' Fell

Fell by Warren Ellis

The Dollar Bin takes the time to review the collected trade of Fell, written by Warren Ellis, illustrated by Ben Templesmith, and published by Image Comics. Take a gander into the world of the Dollar Bin when super heroes (football, celebrities, or hot chicks) aren't the topic of discussion. Could it possibly get a favorable review? Will Adam and Brian agree on something? Will Devin get a word in now that he is the new Kris? Well, I guess you'll just have to listen to find out.

* This issue of the Dollar Bin is brought to you by Planet Comics. Without their generous support and donation (the book) this review would not have been possible. Stop by Planet Comics and send them our love.

Did our review suck that bad..?

I am sure it didnt suck and when I have more than 30 seconds of free time I will listen to it.

So nobody wants the free swag?

Has anyone tried and failed?

September 27, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterBrian

My big question is why is Warren Ellis starting another title when his plate is so full he cannot finish Planetary? I would try for the free swag if I hadn't just bought it two weeks ago damnit!

That's his style. I gets everyone excited about a book and then either cuts it short or gets bored with it an moves one to greener pastures. Its great for reading all sortsa new Ellis craziness, but damn is it frustrating. List of Books I want to see continue: Desolation Jones, Planetary, more Wolfskin, yeah.

The question then is how many times can he do this before we quit buying? Why should I pick up a book that may or may not have an ending until I know for sure? If I'd known that Planetary was gonna stretch out this long I would never have started it to begin with.
Desolation Jones was pretty good with a decent ending but if Fell just peters out with no end I am gonna get pissed.

I've only been getting Planetary in trades, so I'm not too bothered by it. I've also forgotten how good it was since the last trade came out over a year ago.

Desolation Jones did have a good ending until he started it back up again and has since release 2 pamphlets and I haven't seen a new one in like 5 months.

Unfortunately for me I enjoy reading Ellis' self contained stories too much to not get them. It just pulls at me. However, I have not picked up Crecy yet and so far don't plan to.

Has no one freakin' won, yet?!? After winning the last one, I promised myself I wouldn't look like a jackass and try immediately for another one. But since this review made me want to read the book, if it's still not picked up by the weekend, I may have to create for myself a MySpace account and try for it!

Crap - the stuff I miss when I'm out of town...

Go for it Jim, somebody, anybody!!!

I can't believe we have to beg people to get this comic for free.

October 5, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterBrian

I know; that's crazy.

I tried to create a MySpace acct this weekend, but it wouldn't let me...now I've either got to work with their tech support to figure out why it won't or create one with a different e-mail.

How about a different contest since this one is so difficult?

October 10, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterJoel

Its in the works.

October 10, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterAdam

How about an Ellis trivia contest? Most right answers out of 20.

October 10, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterJoel

Hey I'm not sure I remember what the contest was because I wasn't able to go back to the internet for a few days after I listened to the show but I'd like to get the FELL book. I don't get to dabble into the horror genre much on my comic budget but I'd love to try it.

If you ain't got a winner give it to a free stuff moocher! Plus I really like Ben Templesmith!

Hey Guys,
First off, I want the Fell Book. If I was computer literate I would all over the inter web posting my thoughts, such as they are. But this is the upper most level of my skill at the high tec world I now find myself living in. I enjoy your podcasts very much. It’s like having a bunch of guys hanging out and talking out of their asses. That’s what friends are for, right.
I meet Adam at Richards a few weeks ago so it’s nice to put a face to the voice. Looking forward to meeting more of you guys at the Greenville Con. Great podcasts so keep doing what you doing because it’s working.
Take care,
Your listener,
Jesse Willis

Nice to see that we have some interest even though we seem to have not picked a great contest to use. So here is my solution:

Joel, I like the idea but I am too lazy to dig up any Ellis trivia for this giveaway. However keep listening for future contest because we will try that idea for another giveaway soon.

Kevin, thanks for your interest as well and I do hope you check out the book and keep a look out for future giveaways.

Jesse, if you want to win FELL all you need to do is come to the Greenville Con and hang-out with us and give us a soundbite or two about the Con and getting the book from us and the lovely people at Planet Comics.

Me want Fell

October 14, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterUltimate Justin

Ok, I'm going to try for the book. I really like the sound of it. It sounds like its up my street. The only reason i hadn't tried to get it was because I listened to the show a week after it was posted and assumed it had been won already.

Please let me have it. I'm trying to expand my collection, i dont have too many non super hero books in my collection.

October 20, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterNic

Uhh... Nic?

Brian already offered it to Jesse...

But you have definitely made the myspace friends list..?

I'll find something from SPX non-hero related to send you though maybe..?

October 20, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterAdam

cool, congrats to jesse.
