Red Sonja movie set for 2009

Well, the Robert Rodriguez/Rose McGowan coupling is already bearing fruit for fanboys with the announcement at the SDCC of a new Red Sonja movie to be produced by Rodriguez and starring McGowen. Because of previous commitments, Rodriguez will not be able to direct the film though he promised to be a “very hands on” producer. Directing chores for this 2009 release will instead fall to his friend, Douglas Aarniokoski. This will be Aarnokoski’s 3rd turn in the head director’s chair and he has been Rodriguez’s right hand man for many of his biggest film projects. Actor Djimon Hounsou has also been linked to this project rumored to be playing the role of Thulsa Doom.

Brian reviews Wanted

Comic book fans might be split about how much they want to see or even how much they like the latest comic to screen adaptation Wanted starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. But I think most other movie goers won’t have the same questions. I think they’ll just think it’s a great action movie that’s well worth their 10 bucks and 2 hours.

Brian reviews The Incredible Hulk

Let me begin with two things that have nothing to do with Marvel’s latest attempt at a Hulk movie. Two trailers for upcoming comic-book movies were featured before the main attraction. The first was for Hellboy 2 and it looks interesting enough and having somewhat enjoyed the first installment I’m sure I’ll donate my 10 bucks to their cause once again. The second was the “teaser” for the Spirit and all I really have to say about it and that movie is that I still hate Frank Miller. But enough of that…let’s talk about The Incredible Hulk and I’ll keep this mostly spoiler free for those still on the fence about or fully planning to see it in the theatre.

Even from the beginning credits they make it very clear that this movie is not a sequel to Ang Lee’s Hulk film, it is instead a reboot of the franchise with an extreme soft spot for the classic TV series. I am in the minority as far as comic fans go, but other than the Nick Nolte storyline I really enjoyed that film. I certainly enjoyed their Betty Ross MUCH better as well but I digress. My cause for pause with this concept is not so much where the direction or inspiration of the new film came from but the fact that it is rebooting a movie that is only 4 years old and that was a box-office success. I know this could lead to a lengthy discussion about how successful it really was and the mix-bag the critical reviews of the film were and I’m not sure that is needed. I just think it is an odd road to go down and it makes me wonder if the new Punisher movie will be the same thing. Regardless, we are clearly on somewhat fresh ground and different footing when this new film gets started even though it does begin in South America, which is of course where the last one ended. So what is different about Hulk 2008?

The anticipation for the biggest movie of 2008 began with the turning of a playing card as 2005’s Batman Begins drew to a close. With that in mind, on December 14th anyone who bought a ticket to I Am Legend was given an early Christmas gift; the first full trailer to the next installment of the big screen rebirth of Batman The Dark Knight.

Dark Knight Teaser Trailer

Dark Knight Teaser Poster

The Dark Knight took guerrilla marketing to another level today not only online but at the San Diego Comic Con. The net has been “a buzz” all week in hopes of seeing the first real glimpse of what should be the biggest summer blockbuster of 2008 in the form of a rumored teaser trailer. Some were looking for it in a few weeks at Wizard World Chicago, some hoping it would play in front of the Simpson’s movie. And then this website, WhySoSerious.com, was found.
