Dark Knight Teaser Trailer

Dark Knight Teaser Poster

The Dark Knight took guerrilla marketing to another level today not only online but at the San Diego Comic Con. The net has been “a buzz” all week in hopes of seeing the first real glimpse of what should be the biggest summer blockbuster of 2008 in the form of a rumored teaser trailer. Some were looking for it in a few weeks at Wizard World Chicago, some hoping it would play in front of the Simpson’s movie. And then this website, WhySoSerious.com, was found.

Joker I Want You

It’s Time to Play

On Thursday it had a recruitment poster up giving coordinates to a park outside the location of the San Diego Comic Con and a time clock. If you wanted to join up you had to be there, or luckily for all of us who could not be in San Diego, you were told you could play along online as well. It all started with instructions for the assembled crowd outside the Con to “look up”. This toll-free phone number, (800) 395-9646, was displayed on a banner high above, and the game, both online and in San Diego, had begun.

It was part online mystery and part in person scavenger hunt. The online game was filled with puzzles and peeks not only inside the mind of the latest version of The Joker, but how he will look and sound as well. Those playing along in person were “jokerized” to fit in with the look of the gang as well as given certain items in their tour around the park. This was great marketing. It was intricate, very organized, detailed and most of all fun. But best of all, that teaser trailer everyone’s been waiting for a peek of? Well that was your reward for playing along.

For those that missed out on the experience, the game is now over. But the hype for the movie has now been kicked into high gear. And just so you don’t feel completely left out, here is a link to download the reward:

Copy and paste the link above into a new browser window. QuickTime is needed to view the teaser.

Joker (Heath Ledger) and Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal)

Oh, and the Joker’s final message of the day? “See you in December”. While one can only assume we’ll have the first full trailer of The Dark Knight to view at that point, the day’s events make you wonder … what else might the Joker have in store for us?

D'oh! All it does now is go to this creepy rent-a-clown site. I clicked around but if there was a link to the trailer there, I couldn't find it...

Wow. Its true. That's even creepier.

That is awesome. Those are pics of all the people who took part and got "jokerized" at San Diego during the game. I love the online marketing for this movie.

Jim if you still haven't seen it, there are now a lot of working links that might stay put on YouTube.

That is damn cool!

I wish I could have it as a screensaver. It kind of reminds me of a drawing by Tim Sale from The Long Halloween brought to life.

A new site and a new game looks to be about to start.

Check out http://www.thegothamtimes.com/ tomorrow and see.

Word.
That quiz on the whysoserious page was nuts. Also, give the number at the top of the gotham times page a call. I can't remember ever having this much fun interacting with a movie before its release.

Why aren't IronMan and The Incredible Hulk doing this? Why isn't the Hulk bunch doing anything? Have we even gotten a teaser poster or teaser trailer? C'mon!!

i can't help but love this. unlike other jokers, this joker definitely doesn't listen to prince. looks to be more of a sex pistols kinda guy.

I want to be the guy who drives the imax cam car! That thing looked straight outta Mad Max.

How has that never been done before? The Batman logo as the Joker's smile... Genius. It seems so obvious once you see it. Great poster. I can't wait for the trailer.

DARK KNIGHT TRAILER!!!!

Looking forward to a higher res version but it does look good.

Just downloaded and watched the trailer. Heath Ledger is one creepy-ass sumbitch. He's definitely taken the character to new heights (or depths depending on how you look at it). But, him yelling at Batman to run him over on the Bat-pod (which looked so much cooler than the photos made it look) did remind me of Jack Nicholson's "Come on, you gruesome son of a bitch."

I've got the poster with the Joker standing in the middle of the street with his back to us. I just can't wait for a Dark Knight countdown widget for my desktop.

I think we have a Heroes Con countdown widget coming soon. Will that work?
