Preview: Superman/Batman: Apocalypse

Based on the DC Comics series/graphic novel “Superman/Batman: Supergirl” by Jeph Loeb, Michael Turner & Peter Steigerwald, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse is produced by animation legend Bruce Timm
and directed by Lauren Montgomery (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths) from a script by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Tab Murphy (Gorillas in the Mist).

In Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor — leading Batman and Superman to encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon revealed to be Kara, cousin of Superman, who takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth. However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Seeing an opportunity to finally defeat Superman, Darkseid abducts and gains control of Kara, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It’s up to Batman and Superman to save Kara, but they’ll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown, deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow.

The Nerdy Dozen: Movies to Comics

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but there are a lot of films based on comic books hitting theaters these days. Yep it seems that turning comics into movies and comic book characters into movie stars is all the rage in Hollywood these days. In fact the trend has gained so much steam in the last few years that sometimes a comic can have a movie attached even before fans can read the full story. But while there is no shortage of ideas for comics on a monthly basis, I have often wondered why more films and their characters don’t travel the reverse path. My meaning is why don’t we see more non-comic related film properties translated to comics after having been given life on the big screen? There are probably a lot of good reasons why actually but this list isn’t about the why’s it is about the who’s and the what’s. So here is my list of twelve movies that I’d like to see turned into comics.

Adam & Brian interviewed about comic book movies!

Chillin’ at Richard’sIf you’ve listen to a few our shows you are probably aware that Adam and I both like to share our opinions with anyone that will listen. If you’ve ever met us, you probably know that “sharing” also isn’t limited to Dollar Bin related broadcasts. So when writer and DB listener Lisa Schmeiser asked us to answer a few questions for comic related article she was writing, we didn’t delay in saying yes. Since the article wasn’t about us, the feature was on comic book movies, not all of the Q & A was used. With that and our narcissism in mind, here is most of what we had to say for your reading pleasure.

Iron Man DVD Review

Iron Man DVD Cover ArtThe second biggest movie of 2008 and the 21st biggest box-office money maker ever finally hit DVD last week and it hit hard. Iron Man was a huge blockbuster for Marvel Films and it is obvious from all of the various DVD releases on the market they are hoping to make the same sort of splash on the home entertainment market as well. You would assume that just based on the box-office for the film, great DVD sales would be a given. It would seem Paramount and Marvel doesn’t want to risk such an assumption as they are flooding the market with a ton of different “special” editions of the film or more accurately its packaging upon its release.
