Discussion: With a Casual Comic Reader
Tuesday, November 8, 2011 Filed in Discussions
Ever wonder how a casual comic book reader feels about all those comic shop arguments that just burn your bacon? Well, Tee’s friend Casual Comic Reader Tony was kind enough to sit down with us to share his opinions on those contested questions that fanboys always come to greasey feather fisted blows over. Does anyone even read these?

Now THAT was a show. It's nice to see The Dollar Bin doing more shows like in the old days where a topic was picked and it was just guys sitting around talking. And welcome to the show Tony.
I dug the lapsed reader conversation. Very interesting. And I've never heard of anyone keeping comics in a binder before!
But on the flip, I wasn't feeling the second conversation. I thought the topic was interesting, but I didn't vibe with the points being made.
When I first started back up collecting I attempted to keep my comics in binders with sleeves. I only had about 50 so it was okay. I had them broken into story arcs. I had all of my Civil War related in one binder and so on. It quickly became too much and the pages weren't easy for me to turn and they flopped around a lot.
I can't really remember what points there were to vibe with in the second conversation, though I do still think it would have been really awesome if they went 5 issues before revealing the new Ultimate Spider-man was Black/Latino. The reactions to that would have been way more fun to observe as well as more revealing of people themselves.
Good show!
As comic fans we should really just care about what we want from the medium and try to seek that out. But publishers, creators and shops definitely need to pay attention to casual fans as well as fans of their characters in other mediums and try to be friendlier towards them.
