Discussion: Reintroducing Flaco
Sunday, January 2, 2011 Filed in Discussions
With a surprise visit in the Dollar Bin studio Adam threw down the mics and pulled out the chairs to sit down and record with one of the Dollar Bin founders, Flaco. Where has Flaco been? What has he been up to? What’s the show been missing since he left? You’ll find out the answers to all of these question shortly.

Good show and great to hear Flaco again. I think his opinions on Kirkman could apply to a lot of the writers he said he likes (Bendis especially), but I like that he's so vocal about his thoughts. Hopefully, this isn't the last we'll hear from him.
Glad to hear Flaco back. If we could harness his energy we could hook him up to a windmill and power a small New England town. I am so glad to have him back that I don't mind the fact that he was almost completely wrong about both Kirkman and Bendis.
Kirkman's Astonishing Wolfman was indeed a steaming pile but Invincible and Walking Dead have been consistently well above average. His stories move along at a good pace and he strikes a nice balance between the action and character development.
Bendis on the other hand has the great talent of taking a storyline that should take 2 issues and stretching it to six for the trade. Like Flaco said about Kirkman I paid for my opinion of Bendis. I have paid a lot to criticize Bendis. I am tired of picking up two or three issues where nothing happens except people talk and if I ever pick up another issue he "writes" that is page after page of establishing shots for half the book i'll set fire to the damn thing. At 44.00 a pop i want some MF'in story. I know he's Marvel's golden boy at the moment but I think his books could benefit tremendously if they actually had someone edit his work.
You guys are WAY off on Astounding Wolf-Man. The title sucks ass, but it's a really cool and well-executed idea. Have you actually ever read some of it? One of my favorite books from the past few years.
Got the first two trades actually. He had a great idea but the execution was phoned in. And once again Ted and I disagree.
Well, I was totally unfamiliar with Flaco and the first few minutes of this interview I felt like I was chasing a runaway train just trying to keep up. Were you guys, like, freebasing Jolt cola just prior to turning on the mics? But, once I did synch up with the speediness of his thinking, I greatly enjoyed this introduction to all thinks Flaco. It's been a very long time since I heard someone discussing the medium of comics with so much passion. Kinda swept me back to the middle school lunch room, arguing if Psylocke could out fuck Gambit.
I've not bothered to read any of the Walking Dead comics but my opinion of the TV show is pretty close to those expressed by Adam and Flaco. I didn't think the show was totally awful, I even enjoyed some parts of it, but it was more bad than good. So, if nothing else, I'm with you guys. Based on your enthusiastic praise, I think I'll have to give some of those Avatar books a chance. Also, thanks for talking favorably about Strange Tales. I think it's a great and a fun book that, for real, does have some of the best cartoonists in the world playing around with it. Anyhow, loved meeting Flaco here, look forward to you guys having him on whenever the chance presents itself.
