Show 48: Pop Culture Rant and Comics
Wednesday, August 8, 2007
Have you ever just had one of those days? One of those days where you are punch drunk tired and every news story you come across just seems to set you off on a rant to anyone that will listen? Well the Dollar Bin guys had one of those days last Wednesday. So what started as a usual show ended up as one expletive filled pop culture rant after another. From Michael Vick to Barry Bonds to young Hollywood divas and even some comic books in between join us for our tirades on this edition of the Dollar Bin.

Best. Podcast. Ever.
I haven't had that good of a laugh in a while but I did feel sorry for Kris trying to keep things orderly.
Also no bad talking about World of Warcraft or I'll flame you over the intarnetz111onez. BTW did you guys know there was a WoW comic released by DC/WildStorm? Apparently its being written by Walter Simonson and art by Ludo Lullabi with the cover by Jim Lee.
Yeah there is. So that's what Jim Lee's been working on all these years.
I thought he spent most of his time drawing Vicki Vales ass for Fred Krueger..... I mean Frank Miller.
Yeah. seriously. what the hell was that about? At first I thought that book was gonna be okay and then it wasn't, but I think it was better than previous issues. Does that make it good? What a waste of a frame. And is it just me or is Jim Lee's art just not as good as many of the good artists out there? Would he even make it into anyone's top ten? maybe. but top 5? I don't think he'd be n mine.
Wow, we really cursed A LOT on this show.
We may having people protesting us soon.
Brian dont worry about the protest just think of the sweet, sweet drug money from all the crack house advertising.
I don't know how many times I nearly peed myself laughing at this podcast.
Of course then, we come to the religion part.
As someone who believes in creation (yes - you heard that right), I've always had trouble with "creation science"; the idea that you can use science to prove that God created the world, and he did it 6,000 years ago. It's an internally inconsistent argument that just doesn't make sense (or that, as Tre so subtly put it, you'd have to be sharp as a bowling ball to believe).
So, if anyone cares, and I hope you don't mind me sharing it, here's my http://jkmanchester.blogspot.com/2007/08/which-god-do-you-worship.html" rel="nofollow">rant over on my personal blog, prompted by the Dollar Bin that will probably not be viewed kindly by several Christian circles.
Oh, BTW, who saw Stardust?
You know what I haven't seen Stardust yet, but I'm thinking about it and I did receive it for my birthday along with another NG book and the first trade a Sandman, so NG cast here we come.
What interests me so much about the idea of "creation Science" is the the Christians who espouse this "theory" are trying to have their cake and eat it, too. The nature of faith is such that proof of that thing you have faith in is not needed or nessecary. That is, in fact, kind of the definitioin of faith. Why then try to explain in scientific terms the thing you have faith in? To attempt to develop a science to explain christian creation theory undermines a large tenet of christianity, which is "Faith is all you need".
You may as well try to map heaven. You might as well measure the temperature in hell. you might as well measure God's height and weight.
Stupid.
Jim, Let me also just say I was going to comment on your site about this, but I don't have a Google account. At least I don't think I do. I agree with Tre on this. I also read your post and I agree with it. Being that I am on the other side of the fence and yet we can agree on that means to me at least that it must be pretty close to being "right." I feel religion should be a personal thing shared between one's god(s) and his or herself.
Booyakasha!
Thanks, Tre; thanks, Adam. Yeah - I think it's a problem of people trying to replace their faith with science and try to prove their beliefs to the world beyond a reasonable doubt. Which, as you allude to, Tre, defeats the point of faith...
I don't have a problem with using the natural world (science) to support your faith, but you can't use it to replace it.
I'm not sure if people read these things after they've passed, but I figured I'd sport the link anyway:
