Flashback: Ep 22 Hollywood Invasion
Sunday, January 14, 2007
The Dollar Bin guys are joined by some of the Acme Comics customers. Kris was not available because of a scheduling conflict, and Brian points out a Civil War spoiler that Marvel released in the latest Thunderbolts issue. Shame on you Marvel.
The discussion, thanks to Will, focuses on Hollywood (film and television) writers being hired to write comics.

Firstly, brace yourself for the occasional total chaos. Secondly, the writers of Iron Man are Daniel and his brother Charles Knauf. Thirdly, I can't remember thirdly.
Adam
Adam, great job putting it all together! It was fun! Yeah, there were some offbeat converstion, overall good show.
I like thunderbolts, when the title is Suicide Squad! That's coming back !
I was going to do the thing where I paned the conversations, but that is even more confusing and then I was going to pick one conversation and cut out the others, but then I decided to just stick with what we had in all its glory.
I know not of this "Suicide Squad."
Oh and I was gonna cut the Blade part, but thought why not and left it in.

Great conversation.
Joss Whedon is awesome! Flaco - you've got to catch some Buffy episodes; it really is an amazing series. (BTW, it's Season 8 that's coming out from Dark Horse.)
I've seen previews for Pan's Labyrinth, and it looks amazing. But I can't believe you didn't talk about the fact that Guillermo del Toro directed Hellboy! One of the best comic films in recent years. He's working on Hellboy 2, and he also worked on both of the animated movies (the first one of which is very impressive).
And I love Tom Waits! And he was in my favorite comic book film of all time - Mystery Men. I was disappointed that never came up during the film 3-part discussion, but the comic is obscure (coming out of Flaming Carrot by Bob Burden).
Anyway - just thought I'd share. And keep 'em coming! We're listening!
Wow. Mystery Men... Yeah I forgot all about that movie. I didn't know it was a real comic book and honestly have never seen it all the way through. I might have to look back on that one. Oh, and I've never got around to watching Hellboy. I've heard mixed reviews on it, but I don't really trust anyone till I've seen it myself, I do hope to catch it some day.
And I was expecting to hear from Kris here since he wasn't in there last week. I guess I'll just smack him around tomorrow.
Mystery Men is a good movie. It did have it's slow point when they were being trained by The Sphinx. William H. Macy's, The Shoveler, has to be the best superhero in the flick. I love the seriousness he brings to his duty as a superhero that carries a shovel. And how about The Blue Raja? Is that not the coolest costume?
Honestly, I think the best part is Janeane Garofalo's expression when The Invisible Boy is naked in front of them.
Well I guess that's something...
I kind of enjoyed the somewhat controlled chaos of this cast. One thing that I was left wondering centered around the Joss Whedon issue. I understand that most of you think he is amazing and rightly so but I would love to hear more of your opinions on some of his other stuff besides Astonishing Xmen. Firefly, though short-lived, was probably one of my favorite sci-fi shows ever. I loved the humor and the whole idea of the gunslinger west meets Han Solo thing and I really like them capping things off with the movie though I hate that it pretty much left no room for anything to continue on. I also really liked Fray, which was sort of Whedon's Buffy 2099. It should be interesting to see how this upcoming Season 8 stuff fits in with the historic stuff that was mentioned there or if he just writes Fray off and tosses continuity to the wind. Anyway, that's my comment for now and I look forward to the new casts.
And by the way, yes, I really did listen to all 3 hours of the comics to movies broadcast.
Bryan I would personally like to thank you for listening to all 3 hours/shows of the comic to movies feature. I'm not sure even I did that and I was there for all of it.
