For a dude who is supposed to be fearless, Hal does come off as kind of a scaredy-cat. Also, I realize part of the trope in the comics is that aside from Ganthet (sometimes) the Guardians are douches. Should they really have been that in the -first- movie? Otherwise we might think that the entire GL Corps is suspect. If we cared enough to overthink it, which we probably don't, because Green Lantern movie.

So, the DB voicemail transcribes for us and sends the message in email. Thought we'd share the transcription of this latest review (in show) from Terry (mostlyhuman)

"Hey Karen it's Terry. Listen I'm sitting around for him. So I've been on a while but you know how it is six month old baby. Take up a lot of time. Anyway just calling to shorten review before our green lantern, just let you to theater it was okay. I mean, I think two attached hours it's Jennifer take the go. I mean even though you had a good night let me know if step daughter and yeah that's, that's what she said to me was like yeah I really have always had gonna happen the whole time. So, I was flashing and be kinda fun I mean, I, I just saw, actually first class like two days ago and I don't know that was really amazing and maybe go ahead and just seeing how you're doing when you want more. But, you know, those to 10 bucks to get in. So I'll"

... more. Please listen to your voicemail for the remainder of this message.

I don't have anything to add to the GL Movie talk but I do have thoughts on Adam's pre-show bumper. The bottom line is comic book companies are really bad at marketing, but beyond that...

I agree with what Matt Fraction (as told by Adam) said about not wanting to spoil stories for people on purpose. However, Marvel spoiled both big moments in his book way ahead of that already by sending info and promos to various comic related websites.

Bigger point of the bad idea of giving media outlets the punchlines for jokes readers are expected to pay for is that it does not help sales. They do this the day of, day before or week of the issues in question are released. The books have already been sold to and delivered to retailers so "more" issues aren't going to be sold. Retailers have already bought all they can afford to carry or can expect to sell and have bought more than normal because it is an "event" issue. By the time re-orders (if available) or 2nd printings are done, the majority of the interest in these media buzz books are gone unless the president is on the cover.

Not to mention the fact that by giving away the finish you remove the need to read it. Anyone jumping into an issue at the end of some big storyline for one moment isn't getting your story and isn't that the real point? To use Brubaker's twitter argument, by advertising only these big moments (usually deaths) and not the journey what is Marvel saying to non-readers and readers about their product?

I can't state how much I agree with your bumper. I will give Brubaker credit for listening to my point and getting into a pretty lengthy discussion with me (all it took was for me to call him a dick and state that he didn't care about his fans). But, I think he and Bendis are DEAD wrong. I'm glad that Fraction is more sensitive to his readers. It's just so dumb and pointless to spoil the ending to this book for the sake of MAYBE grabbing a few extra dollars from one-time non-fans who may stumble into a store to buy the book. In fact, I'll doubt any of that comes to pass since we're talking about an alt. universe character...not the "real" Spider-Man. Why not give the interview on Thursday? Non-comic fans don't know that the book is two days old. If they're still interested, they'll buy it and you haven't destroyed it for the fans.

I've been reading that book for like four years now. A TON of folks have been on board since #1. They were all sold out for what...media coverage? A few hundred additional units moved? Fucking stupid. I know it's not much, but I'm not buying this book in protest. Matter of fact, I might just download the pdf out of spite.

Oh yeah...GL sucked.

I saw GL in 3D and my eyes could barely focus on the movie. The glasses had a green tint and made the movie seem colorless. I was straining to see the entire time. I thought it was awful, but my judgement may be affected by the shitty 3D.(I saw Tron in 3D and it was awesome, so, not sure what the problem was) I also agree with Adam and Ted that spoilers should be released Thursdays. They shit on the established fan base with their spoilers to the media. The integrity of the story is ruined by their own creators. I just dont get it. People might buy more comics if they didnt know the freaking ending already. Great show, really funny, Eison was hilarious.

One word review of the movie... "Meh."

Green Lantern 2: Rise of the Corps starring Ryan Reynolds, Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen, & Damon Wayans. Written & Directed by Kevin Smith and opening in theaters everywhere December 22, 2012. Via con dios Sinestro.

Mark your calendars ladies and gentlemen. Ted and I agree on something. Ruining the big surprises just to get a few more readers is a major dick move. To borrow a phrase from the great man Brian Eison "Fuck you Brian Bendis".

Oh, and I have no desire to see Green Lantern but I will be first in line for Captain America.

Great movie, great soundtrack. I'm talking about the Crow, course. Its available on Netflix Instant. Despite all the glowing praise heaped on the Green Lantern movie I doubt I will see it any time soon, if ever, certainly not in the theater.

Green Lantern was a bad movie, period. Got some plot questions not addressed by the DB.

1. Where did Hal's best friend Tom go after confronting Hal about being GL?

2. Exactly what was Sinestro's motivation to steal the yellow ring after the first batch of credits?

3. After Hal quit the corps, why did he feel the need to show off the ring to Tom (who disappears after this scene).

4. Where did Carol's dad go?

5. Exactly what was the relationship between Hector Hammond and Hal? Hector and Carol? Was this an aborted love triangle?

6. Is there a ranking system in the GL Corps? It certainly felt like it though Hal was able to see the Guardians without going through a chain of command. Sinestro acted as a general. Then Kilowog was a drill sergeant, though spends two minutes providing training. If it was longer, was there anything suggesting a time shift?

.... I think this movie suffered from a mish-mash of writers and story elements that could have been streamlined making way for character development.

There was way too much going on and unnecessary, which coincidentally recreated the feeling of current Geoff Johns stories.

When it comes to streamlining, why not just have Carol just taking over for the family business instead of a subplot about being prepped for it. Her need for Hal is generally good for business yet maintains the sexual tension needed for the story.

The first GL animated film did a better job getting to the point with a franchise loaded with a rich source material. Thor had foreign elements to it with the Asgard portion, but stuck to its characters and familiar conflicts (sibling rivalry, daddy issues) as opposed to exposition/plot. That's why the first Star Wars trilogy works and the prequels not so much.

SPOILERS

Shouldn't Sinestro been the architect releasing Parallax? That would given his character some sort of motivation for a turn other than spontaneously committing petit larceny at the end. The Parallax entity could have possessed Hector Hammond making him the main bad guy and possibly more sympathetic, and eliminating some exposition about the Guardian's history.

END SPOILERS

I do hope GL does well financially opening the doors for other DC properties other than Batman and Superman to be used outside of comics.

This was the best show I've heard in a while guys. I'm not a GL fan, but I dug the movie. But I also enjoyed Jonah Hex and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen for what they were. None of these flicks are Batman Begins/Dark Knight/Iron Man good, but they're entertaining, to me at least.
