Great show! On the topic of Grendel I'd probably recommend Devil by the Deed, both because it's the first one and also the best one. I'd also recommend Grendel Archives if you can find it cheap. It reprints the original Grendel series that Wagner did while still in college, although the art isn't as good.

Here's my choices.

Books for non-comic readers. Since most non-comic readers aren't into superheroes, I've broken this list down into categories.
1. For the Sci'Fi fan- Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo
2. For the Horror fan- Lords of Misrule by Various
3. For the Drama/Slice of life fan- Any of the Dropsie Ave books by Will Eisner

Books for comic readers.
1. Maus by Art Speigleman
2. Kaboom by Jeff Loeb and Geoff Matsuda
3. Batman: Black and White by Richard Corben, Matt Wagner, Ted McKeever, and varioius.

So long and Merry Christmas.

I agree, Will Eisner graphic novels are good presents for people who don't read comic books. My father loved the ones I gave him even though he doesn't get my general interest in comic books.

Other ideas:

Y: The Last Man for fans of sci-fi
Queen & Country for fans of espionage
Gotham Central for fans of crime or police procedurals

I'll second Beasts of Burden.

Some of my favorites to gift are Usagi Yojimbo, Bone, The Muppets, and the first volume of The Sixth Gun. I think that a plain old gift certificate to an actual comic shop is a good idea too...gets them in the door at least.

Sketch cards can be fun especially when you've got guys like TABoatwright doing great full-color ones for $5.

I gotta agree with Adam, something is wrong when I have to hunt, even in places like Barnes and Noble to find an Astro City trade but they have 30-40 different X-Men ones. Even though it comes out sporatically everyone comic lover needs to be reading this series.

Here are a couple of gift ideas I like to toss around the shop:

For kids: The Crogan Adventures series (Oni) & The Owly series (Top Shelf)

For kids at heart: Roger Langridge's Muppets series (Boom)

For DC kids at heart: Tiny Titans trades (DC)

For Trekkies: Khan: Ruling In Hell tpb (IDW)

For Lucas nerds: Darth Vader & the Lost Command (Dark Horse)

For a good mutant book: Uncanny X-Force (Marvel)

For wrestling fan: Money In The Bank 2011 PPV DVD or a Mattel WWE action figure
