Discussion: DC 52 Relaunch Batch 3

Feeling that Shawn and Adam weren’t dragging out discussions on these 52 relaunch books long enough, Brian, Devin, and Ted join in on the fun. Are they all on the same page? My guess is no.

First, I need to comment that just because other books do a shit thing it does not mean a reviewed book is not shit because it does the same thing all the other books are doing.
Next, smaller boobs = stronger female character is ridiculous. Its not the size of the boobs, but in the presentation, that is the characterization and the imagery and whether or not the body suit zipper is zipped down to the navel.
Finally, a lot happens in the single issue of Wonder Woman. A villain is introduced. A chick cuts off a couple of horses heads and they turn into centaurs, which was pretty cool. It is introduced this this unknown woman is seeked by the gods and WW kicks some ass.
I stand by the smaller boobs comment. I've never anyone complain about a book being over-sexualized when the character's chest is drawn in a realistic manner. Again, I'll point you to the Wonder Woman book you guys loved so much (even though nothing happened). Throw some D-cups on the chick in her panties in the open or on nude-sleeping Wonder Woman and folks would be calling it gratuitous. Or not, if they think the artist is a nice guy.
Oh yeah, Green Lantern Corps was awesome btw. Probably right up there with Supergirl and Blue Beetle for me.
I'd say Wonder Woman's boobs were as big as Cat Woman's, but she did not wear an outfit zipped down to her navel, nor fight disguised as a shirtless whore in an exposed pink bra. Its not the size of the boobs. It is how they are presented.
Looking deeper into the subject manor I'd say its not "if you want a book to not be considered over-sexualized draw her with average sized boobs," but it that "if you want a book to be considered over-sexualized to draw the character with large boobs." You have to remember that these aren't real people. They are characters being driven by a write/artist. The writer/artist are making a conscious effort to portray the character in a particular light. In the case of Cat Woman she isn't over-sexualized because she has big boobs, but she has big boobs, so she can be over-sexualized.
It really comes down to the difference between clever story telling and cheap story telling. Power Girl, has big boobs, but she is not over-sexualized, at least not when there is a good writer/artist team.
This was a great show. Many different viewpoints on this relaunch show up. The continuity seems even more confusing now with a "kind of" relaunch. It makes you wonder why Hal Jordan doesnt think Barbara Gordon walking again is weird. The more I think about it, the less sense it makes to me. It seemed exciting at first, but now im doubting the success will last. I thought Wonder Woman was great. I'll follow a few of these new books for the first story arc and then decide. I could care less the size of the girls boobs in any comic book but I get both viewpoints. I kinda agree with Ted though. Power Girl was a bit over-sexualized by Amanda Connor, but they made it funny and not overbearing to the story(and they showed her face).
Deadman is awesome!
While I didn't actually read Catwoman or the Red Hood stuff, but from all that I've heard about it I just thought it was a little weird for what was supposed to have been first issues of a new universe.
The more I reflect on Deadman the better it was. However, I find it odd that he appears in 3 of the 52 books.
