In which Shawn looks at the New Releases and lets you know which books she is most excited about!

1) Ultimate Thor #1

I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this comic. I love Jonathan Hickman’s writing and I love Carlos Pacheco’s art but I stopped reading the entire Ultimate line after Ultimates 3. Brendan at Richard’s recommended it so I took a chance and picked it up. Art is great; story is engaging. I am a little confused that Blake and Thor are two different people but I can let that go. The best part of this book is the villain! I can’t wait to see what happens next.

2) iZombie #6

This issue was an origin story for the Were-Terrier. This didn’t feel like a filler issue which is one problem I have with “origin stories”. This issue continued where the last one left off and continued to progress the plot. Excellent read!

3) Shield #4

Everything is slowly tying together and starting to make sense. I love this book! Jonathan Hickman and Dustin Weaver are incredible storytellers. I seriously never would have thought that a comic book about Isaac Newton and Leonardo da Vinci would be this awesome. Issue five can’t come soon enough.

4) Meta 4 #3

I love everything about this book. The characters are fresh. The illustrations and the lettering are unlike anything out there right now. Ted McKeever really plays with the comic format. If you want a comic that challenges you then you should read Meta 4.

5) Richard Stark’s Parker The Outfit HC

I don’t know if I can say anything about this book that hasn’t already been said. Darwyn Cooke’s art is beautiful. His sense of story and timing are impeccable. I haven’t read this yet but I look forward to sitting down with this book and letting Cooke’s story wash over me.

It was a huge week and I picked up a ton of comics. Here are some of the other awesome books I purchased: American Vampire #7, House of Mystery #30, Buffy #37, Strange Science Fantasy #4, Toy Story #7, Baltimore Plague Ships #3.
